It's that time of year again. College kids are heading back to school and faced with the question: how am I going to get around this year? For many college students, cars are impractical, too expensive, or simply not allowed. Skateboards are a great alternative for commuting across campus. Not only are they cheaper, more sustainable, and more fun, they will also save you time getting around. If you’re living on campus or close by, dropping your board and cruising to class is perfect for you.

As a college student who’s been through the process, I know that deciding on a new board for school can be a daunting task. That's why I decided to write this article.

For college commuting, you’re going to want a board that is long enough to be stable, but short enough to allow tight turns while navigating through campus. Not to mention you’ll be carrying your board into class, so you don’t want it to be TOO big.

For most of you campus commuters, a cruiser board is your best choice. This is because a cruiser longboard is great on any terrain and for all skill levels. If you're a relatively inexperienced skateboarder, I would definitely recommend a cruiser because it is probably the easiest board to learn on. They're still great for intermediate and advanced riders too! Cruisers are built to be ridden down the street or through town for short or medium distances.

If you know you’ll be commuting further distances, perhaps you live a ways off campus, then I’d recommend you go with a commuter longboard. Whereas cruiser boards can be used for all around riding, commuter boards are designed specifically for commuting to and from work or school. These are better longboards for longer distance trips.
